About getting married in Seychelles

Seychelles are members of Commonwealth, signee of Hague Convention of 5th October 1961, therefore legally conducted marriage in Seychelles is recognized and valid all over the world.

CEREMONY

The Civil wedding ceremony will be performed by the Seychellois Registrar from Civil Status Office, in English, French, or Creole language and in accordance with the Seychelles law. The Marriage certificate issued will be in English language and it comes with apostil from Supreme Court. Some countries do require additional verification, please see below.

We will confirm the wedding date as soon as the documents are submitted, however the exact time of the ceremony will be given closer to the date, since it solely depends on availability of the Registrar. Only few registrars are performing all, rather many weddings in Seychelles daily, therefore the exact time of the ceremony will be the last information we will get.

Office weddings are taking place mainly in the morning hours, In -room weddings throughout working hours from 8-16h, and beach weddings are conducted from 11 to 16h, Monday to Friday.

For weddings after working hours (16h), or non-working days Saturdays, Sundays and Public holidays, the additional fee applies.

Please note we are just below Equator, the sun rises and sets at almost the same time, 6:15 in the morning and 18;15 in the afternoon. Latest time for the wedding with photographer should be at 16:45h

The official wedding ceremony is romantic and relaxed event, with welcoming words, reading of the marriage act, repeating wedding vows, exchanging rings and signing registrar’s books. The total official part lasts no longer than 15 minutes, followed by celebration. And of course – with shower of petals!

Two witnesses are required for the wedding ceremony. You are welcome to have your own witnesses, they will need to have an ID, or Passports with them. If you are arriving alone, we will be happy to provide witnesses from our side, it is free of charge.

AFTER THE WEDDING

With constantly increasing number of weddings in Seychelles, new regulations at Civil Status, it now takes us 5 to 7 working days after the wedding to obtain all necessary attestations, which takes us to 4 different Governmental institutions and Embassies.

For most of the countries, citizens of USA, Canada, Great Britain, and EU it is very simple. Only one original marriage certificate with apostil is required. It takes us only 1-2 working days after the wedding to obtain all.

For UAE residents we will need to provide double set of certificates and additional verification; original marriage certificate plus one attested copy, both with apostils, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) verification letters, plus UAE Embassy attestation stamp.  The procedure requires minimum of 5-7 working days, depending on how busy relevant offices and Embassies are.

In case you will be leaving Seychelles before the documents have been completed, we will post them to given address by Registered mail free of charge, or by DHL express courier, at additional cost.

Ceremonies on weekends and public holidays will be charged extra (Euro 150).

Please note:

Swiss passport holders should travel with 2 sets of certified copies and all original documents (applicable for both partners).
